BILLINGS — Only 45 days remain until the Billings Outlaws’ era in the relaunched Arena Football League kicks off.
On Thursday, April 18, at 6 p.m. at First Interstate Arena at MetraPark, the Outlaws will take on the Denver Sharks in a non-league exhibition.
The Outlaws’ opponent for that preseason game — the Sharks — was recently announced, as were a couple tweaks to the schedule due to commitments with television partners according to team owner Steven Titus.
With everything falling into place for the Outlaws first year in the AFL following two seasons in the Champions Indoor Football league, Titus said there was energy throughout the franchise.
“Without a doubt, we are excited to bring Arena Football to Billings,” said Titus. “It’s a new atmosphere, a new energy and just an overall new experience for Billings. Once we are able to announce our national broadcast partners, our sponsors, our players, our fans and our city will be very excited about the product that we are able to bring to Billings.”
The adjustments to the Outlaws’ 10-game regular season schedule were minor. In all only four games were affected, and a couple were only start times.
For home games on Saturday, May 18 (against the Oregon Blackbears) and Saturday, June 15 (against the Washington Wolfpack), the start times are an hour earlier than originally announced with kickoff at 5 p.m.
The Outlaws’ game against the West Texas Desert Hawks in Odessa, Texas, is now on Saturday June 1 instead of Thursday, May 30.
And, their last game of the regular season — at Everett, Washington, against the Wolfpack — is now Saturday, June 29 instead of Thursday, June 27.
Training camp is slated to begin April 1 for the Outlaws, with players reporting March 30 Titus said. The Outlaws will be practicing at the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch this season.
“We are counting down the days to training camp,” Titus said. “It is crazy to think this time next month we will have already started practice.”
